Experience
I have enjoyed a long and successful career in public policy, first as a multilingual communications and public affairs consultant, then as a government public information officer and media spokesperson. I have also had the honor of being elected to public office in the United States. I owe much of professional success to five former elementary, middle and high school teachers, all of whom helped me navigate a speech impediment so that I could organize and express my thoughts with clarity, confidence and an authentic voice. Their patience and commitment inspired me to share my love of reading, writing and social sciences as a volunteer tutor (English) to K-8 students, which I have enjoyed intermittently for over 20 years. For the last five years, I have coached high school students in composition and rhetoric (persuasive speaking and writing). I truly enjoy the challenge of identifying and building upon the unique strengths of each of my students, particularly early elementary and adult learners. As someone who returned to school to seek an advanced degree later in life, I know it is never too late to learn something new!

Hobbies
I have been a Catholic catechist for several years and currently teach a First Communion class for English speaking Italian children, which adds much joy to my life. When not lost in a museum (or a good book), you can find me jogging the backways of Umbria or improving my decaying Spanish and French with other ex-pats.
